Learn neuroscience with Suzana Herculano-Houzel:
NEUROSCIENCE OFFICE HOUR
Suzana Herculano-Houzel is an avid communicator of neuroscience to the general public, and Neuroscience Office Hour is her own line of communication with anyone interested in learning about what brains are, how they come to be, and what they do in our lives. Here you find free, pre-recorded visits to her virtual office (the Virtual Visits), each about a different topic; free, live visits where you can ask your own questions (Live Neuroscience Office Hour, coming soon!); an inexpensive Crash Course on the main concepts about brain organization and function (coming VERY soon!); and a full course on the Fundamental Concepts in Neuroscience, currently in production, if you want the full thing, exams, certificate and all.
VIRTUAL VISITS
In the freely available Neuroscience Office Hour - Virtual Visits videos, found here (add-free!) and in the Neuroscience Office Hour channel on YouTube (with adds...), Suzana Herculano-Houzel talks about the neuroscience of everyday life, comments on recent discoveries, explains fundamental concepts about the brain, and answers your questions.
THE CRASH COURSE
Would you like to learn the most fundamental concepts about brains and nervous systems without deciphering textbooks or getting bogged down by the details? Neuroscience Office Hour - The Crash Course is made for you. Produced beautifully by Interference Films, this is a series of 14 video visits to Herculano-Houzel's virtual office, each 5-17 minutes long, during which you learn from the principles of what nervous systems are about (signal distribution) to how your sense of self emerges (from the interplay of the several loops in the brain forming the various functional networks of the ever-active merry-go-round that is the brain). During Neuroscience Office Hours, your learning is always focused on concepts, not details; and knowledge, not information.
